The Day of the Jackal takes place
Scenario
The Jackal is an elusive assassin who makes his living by carrying out murders for top dollar. He soon meets his match: a dogged British intelligence officer who tracks him down in a thrilling cat-and-mouse chase across Europe. The novel is set in 1963 and concerns an assassination attempt on then French President Charles de Gaulle.
Remake of The Day of the Jackal (1973)
The show shifts the setting to the current era. Yes, it’s a reboot, but they make a great start to it. Redmayne is fantastic as the cold killer, the Jackal!
Keeps you mesmerized the whole time
Excellent scenery in some beautiful parts of Europe. The only detractor is the lead female agent of MI6, who is boring and unimaginative. Being one of my favorite books, I was skeptical about another remake after the train wreck caused by Bruce Willis’ move.
Overall, though, a very entertaining series
However, The Day of the Jackal caught my attention from the start and held it for the first five episodes. Hopefully the rest of the season will live up to the first half. A new season of “Silo” is one of the biggest TV and streaming premieres this month.
