LollipopBy Beverley Ross & Julius Dixon Performed by The Chordettes. This was a movie I was hesitant about because the premise seemed very similar to Truth or Dare (2018) and I really hate that movie. However, I started hearing good things about this movie at Fantastic Fest 2022 and it gave me hope, so I decided I wanted the movie and Smile (2022) was easily one of the biggest surprises of 2022. Positives for Smile (2022) ): Unlike Truth or Dare (2018) ), this movie makes the evil smile trick work. I have to give props to writer-director Parker Finn for making this gimmick really scary at times.
Usher, Kal Penn, and Judy Reyes
I really liked Sosie Bacon’s lead performance as Rose Cotter, and yes she is the daughter of Kevin Bacon and Kyra Sedgwick. I also really enjoyed the sideshows with Kyle Gallner, Jessie T. There are some effective uses of gore in the film and it adds to the scary nature of the smile in this film. And finally, the camerawork in this film is amazing, especially considering Parker Finn’s feature directorial debut. Negatives for Smile (2022): Despite praising this film, it feels like other horror films I’ve seen in the past, such as Ringu (1998), Se Se segu (2014) and of course Truth or Dare (2018), so there’s nothing new for this film except for the execution.
And finally, the ending of the movie was a bit worse for me
Overall, Smile (2022) is one of the best horror movies out there that I didn’t care for at first but instead ended up loving this movie a lot and can’t wait for Smile 2 (2024).
