An American (English) remake of the French series HPI (2021)
Scenario
It follows Morgan, a single mother of three, as she uses her extraordinary mind to solve a crime while rearranging evidence during a cleaning shift for the police department. Despite her very high IQ, excellent memory, and extensive knowledge of the secret, Morgan makes some basic legal mistakes that anyone who has ever watched a TV law show would know she doesn’t make.
3 removes all documented evidence from the police station, completely breaking the chain of custody and making everything he removed inadmissible in court
For example, in the first episode, she retrieves a document from a locked safe in the suspected victim’s law office that would never be admissible in court: illegally obtained evidence. Furthermore, it could not be used to obtain other evidence: a violation of the legal doctrine of “fruit of the poisonous tree.” In episode 2, she is reminded to wear gloves before handling evidence at the crime scene, and in episode #2.
I loved, loved, loved the original
HPI Remake (2021). I don’t expect it to be the same (the original was, gosh, French, with an incredible cast, and that definitely added flavor and frenetic pace to the show).
This version definitely has a lot of potential of its own
However, the concept and high-potential stories are solid (assuming they tell some of the same stories), so I’m giving the American version a chance, certainly more than one episode, and letting this cast own it. I hope it’s as good as the original or close to it by the end of the season, even if it’s a little different and Kaitlin isn’t the amazing Audrey Fleurot (but who is?).
